Pilates
Pilates is based on a unique system of stretching and strengthening exercises developed 90 years ago by Joseph H. Pilates. He initially devised the exercises to strengthen his own body, later helping bedridden patients during WWI by attaching springs (for resistance) to their hospital beds. These spring-based exercises became the basis for current Pilates equipment.
Pilates features a series of exercises performed on a mat or on various pieces of specially designed equipment (for example, Cadillac or Reformer) that become progressively more difficult.
At GO Physio, we offer group mat classes at the beginner and intermediate levels, as well as private and semi-private sessions primarily taught on our Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrel equipment. Stott trained instructors teach all classes.
Group mat classes have a maximum of 10 participants and run for 10 weeks. In the beginner level classes, we concentrate on mastering the basic principles of Pilates and learning the essential exercises; focusing on trunk strength and co-ordinated movement.
The intermediate mat class is designed for those who have mastered the basic level exercises and are looking for a greater challenge and an opportunity to further build core strength with more difficult exercises.
GO Physio also offers a Trim & Tone Pilates Circuit & a Bosu Ball class which is a great opportunity to try something new & explore the different aspects of Pilates!
